How to play
Tap a piece, then a marked destination. Dots mark moves; rings mark captures. You may also drag pieces with a mouse. Arrow keys move keyboard focus; Enter selects a piece or destination; Escape cancels selection.
Protect your king. Checkmate wins; a stalemate is a draw. Castling requires an unmoved king and rook and a safe, clear king path. En passant is available only immediately after an adjacent pawn advances two squares. Choose any of four pieces on promotion.
Claim a draw after three repetitions or 50 moves by each side without a capture or pawn move. You can also declare an intended legal move that would qualify. Five repetitions and 75 moves are automatic draws.
Clocks start when you press Start, or when the second online player joins. They keep running through review, sleep, disconnection, and closing the page. Local games can be paused. A takeback restores clocks to immediately before the first undone move, then restarts the active clock.
Difficulty labels are approximate, with no verified Elo ratings. This game uses locally bundled Stockfish 17.1 Lite. Rare blocked dead positions beyond standard material cases are not automatically recognized; see the rules coverage document.
