Square labels use the existing numbers 1 through 32, read as “square twenty-one,” for example. Turn on Square numbers in Settings to see them; flipping the board never changes them.
Ordinary narration works at every level. Automatic instructional hints apply only to your turns against the computer at Beginner or Easy. The separate Instructional Hints control saves your preference. The Hint button remains an on-demand move suggestion. Hints describe legal possibilities, not a guaranteed best or safe move.
Pause Voice pauses speech and computer pacing. Resume Voice or Voice Off remains available in every dialog. Resume may restart a phrase on browsers that interrupt speech when paused.
Dark moves first. Men move and jump diagonally forward. Kings (♛) move and jump in either direction, one square or one adjacent opponent at a time.
Captures are mandatory. Choose any available capture, then finish every possible jump with that piece. You may choose either branch; the longest route is not required.
Reaching the far row makes a king and ends the turn immediately, even when another jump would be available to the new king.
Win by leaving your opponent without pieces or legal moves. You may resign or mutually agree to a draw.
Our casual draw policy: a draw is automatic when the same board and side to move occur three times at completed-turn boundaries, or after each player completes 40 turns without a capture or a move by an uncrowned man. Either type of progress resets both counters.
Tap a piece then a marked destination, or drag it. Keyboard: arrow keys move focus, Enter/Space select or move, Escape cancels unless a jump must continue.
Online rooms expire after 24 hours without a successful player action. Disconnections never award a win. Expired games close without a result. Room codes invite a second player; your private browser token restores your own seat.
